The Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting in Economic Sciences 2017

This summer, Vladimír Novák, our PhD student, attended the 6th Lindau Nobel Laureate Meeting, where 350 young international economists from 66 countries met with 17 Nobel Laureates. The meeting lasted for 5 days and was packed with lectures, panel discussions (all of them now available online), special breakfasts or dinners, but also with coffee breaks and other informal gatherings where participants could have fruitful discussion on whatever topic they liked.

You have recently been elected as the IMF Executive Director for Austria, Belarus, Czech Republic, Hungary, Kosovo, the Slovak Republic, Slovenia, and Turkey. What is your biggest goal for next two years?

After more than 70 years, the Czech Republic can directly influence the decision making of the International Monetary Fund. PRISONERS WEAVING HAMMOCKS: LESSONS LEARNED FROM THE FIRST DISCOVERY WEEK HELD AT CERGE-EI

19 of the 22 students on the MA in Applied Economics program gathered at CERGE-EI one week before the new academic year officially began to take part in the Discovery Week. The principal goal of this event was to provide fresh ideas to an organization working with marginalized communities – such as prisoners – who weave hammocks for public spaces.

OPEN SCIENCE AT CERGE-EI: ECONOMICS AS A TOOL FOR MAKING DECISIONS IN REAL LIFE

Ten years ago, the Czech Academy of Sciences initiated a project whose principal goal was to popularize science among the general public. Besides educating high school teachers, the Open Science project was aimed at talented high school students by offering internships at selected scientific institutes of the Czech Academy of Sciences.

JAN KMENTA (1928 – 2016): THE LONG JOURNEY FROM HOME AND BACK

Jan Kmenta started and finished his life in Prague.

Still, his life was everything but provincial – shortly before his final days, in one interview he confessed: I spend one third of each year in Australia, one third in Michigan and one third in Prague. I am very lucky.
